New to Mazda. Former Subaru and Honda enthusiast

I am in the process of purchasing a 2014 Mazda 3 or Mazda 6. The dealership is uncertain he they can obtain the 2014 3 hatch in the color I want, thus meaning I may end up with a 6.


I am very interested in joining Mazda now that they have divorced Ford. I never knew that Ford was involved since 1979. I question how Mazda will fare in the long term without a large auto manufacturer backing them.

Subaru is similar in that they are a very small auto manufactured, but Toyota purchased the stock GM had in Subaru when GM was in a almost bankrupt state. Toyota increased its stock in Subaru from 13% to now 20%.

Nissan is another Japanese auto manufacturer, but they seem to be in decline because their models are redundant and the reliability of it's small models is not the best because Nissan implements Renault engines into the Versa,Cube,Sentra, and even the 4 cylinder Altima. The VQ is the only motor from Nissan that has stellar reliability.

you still can remain a Honda and Subaru enthusiast, you simply add Mazda to the list.

You say Mazda divorced Ford. That statement is not quite right. Ford reluctantly gave up its stake in Mazda because Ford needed every single penny to survive the '08 financial massacre without begging the government for a bail out.

You seem to think that Ford was a bad influence on Mazda? There are people who would argue that it was Ford who taught Mazda a thing or two about quality. Mazda gained strength and market share during its alliance with Ford.

I also wonder if Mazda can pull through on its own. Anyway the newer designs look very nice and the Skyactive technology shows their ability to innovate.
