Mazda Forum - Mazda Enthusiast Forums - Main relay opens when key is in start position

I've traced the wiring diagram for my friend's '95 Miata & I can't find anything that could cause this relay to open when key is in the start position. The relay closes when the key is in the ON position as expected. The relay opening when trying to start engine of course disallows the engine from starting. It looks like the relay is to remain closed all the time the engine is running from what the wiring diagram shows.

It would make sense that this incorrect relay behavior could be caused by the control module, but it looks like the Red/Wht wire from the main relay is an input to the control module and not an output from the control module. Also, the relay switches closed/open so it appears okay.

Things already replaced: ignition switch, control module & ignition coil.

Any idea what could be the culprit here. Shot gunning didn't work (and costly), so now I'm involved to reason with it.
