Default Bluetooth Issue

Hello
I am hoping someone can help me out with this. I don't know if its a car, bluetooth or a phone issue.

I can connect bluetooth no problem. I can use bluetooth for calls, and everything is good. I can also read emails and text. However when I receive a call/text there is no ringer/sound the only notification I get is the touchscreen on the car. If I use my cell phone and Google maps for navigation, the sound will not go through the car speakers even though I'm bluetooth connected. Is there something I'm missing some setting?
I see in bluetooth settings on my phone there is a connection for call audio, media audio, contact access and message access. They are all turned on.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 android phone. I am driving a Mazda 3, 2015.
Thank you
