93 DX transaxle oil change...

Hi all. Oregon Halloween and treated Karen's SOHCbeater to new syn blend (yeah, it's walmart $4.16 qt.). used my 23MM deep socket with a 3/4" breaker bar so i didn't have to wrestle with the 23MM head size drain bolt under her car. drove the protege up on a 4x4 on passenger side to speed up with drain of the 2.83 total quarts. Oil was hot after she did errands this a.m. sooil made hasty exit.removing the 10MM head size bolt that keeps the speedo cable gear fast, andusing 18" 3/8" extension bar helps out when working on the top of transaxle and near fire wall. don't drop the 10MM gear bolt in your catch oil pan. yep, gotta remove the air box feed tubeas it sure helps me find a little more hand and wrench room to work.long narrow funnel and away ya go. there's a bit of turning the speedo gear back and forth and pushing down at same time to get the gear and housing to seat flush, but it goes in finally.i only added about 2.5 quarts as i rather run a tad short. does the wife's car shift better now with syn blend? who knows. but i think it's alot better. however, what i drained outa that trans/diff box was some knarly stuff after 50K. might be time for you all to change oil in your manual trans boxes? If we seniors can do it, you sure can.
