Default 2004 mpv issues

Today I heard a loud ticking sound while accelerating while driving into town. When I got to the store there was white smoke pouring out the front end and a burnt oil smell, both issues cleared out within 5-10 minutes. I could still hear the ticking sound on the drive home and noticed it was slow to accelerate going up hill. In the 15 minutes back home, I barely made it up my driveway with the pedal all the way to the floorboard. No smoke when I got out this time, but still a burnt oil smell. Any suggestions??

Welcome to the forum

I would not be driving until you found the problem. Based on the little information check you oil filler cap?
The next thing is a really big oil leak from a seal or gasket?

Stop running the engine before you do costly engine damage.
