Default 2001 Mazda MPV

Hi, my check engin light just came on and I had it checked and they said it was the oxygen sensor. Is this something I can replace myself with out too much of a head ache? If so, where on the exaust is it located? Thanks for any help.

An O2 sensor code does not always mean the o2 is bad. It has several o2 on the van. Post the code and we can work through it.

P1250 is the fuel pressure regulator solonoid circuit, P0031 is a lean condition. The O2 code could be caused by the P1250 ( pressure regulator solonoid code so i would chase that down first then clear the codes and see if the other comes back. Check the wiring, vacuum etc to the solonoid.

The pressure regulator is on the fuel rail that the injectors are on. It will have a vacuum hose attached to it. Just follow that hose.

I looked all over and I did find a hose that needed to be replaced. After I fixed that I reset the check engine light. I came back on with the same error codes. How hard is it to replace the O2 sensor? Do you know where it would be located on my Mazda? Thanks for your help.

It has several o2 sensors. 1 on the exhaust manifold before the converter and 1 behind the converter for each bank. But the codes you posted are not o2 sensor codes. An o2 sensor only reads what it sees and if the pressure regulator circuit has a problem it will kick a lean code. You can check an o2 sensor by monitoring it. Rev the engine to 2500 rpm or so and see if it switchs, it should switch within 5-7 seconds and switch from rich to lean. They cannot be tested at idle If it takes 10 seconds to switch it is deemed lazy.

Thanks for your help, but I think we have passed my level of ability. Do you think I need to take this to a dealership or something a shop could do? Again thanks for your help.

I think you should take it to a shop. Just tell them you wish to fix the fuel pressure regulator solonoid code first and see if the o2 code comes back.
