So, I need a new pair. Does anyone use any special wiper blades? I tried the rain-x brand, and they were complete crap. Not only did they leave a lot of streaks in the rain, but they also have a tendency to freeze in the winter, and then miss entire sections of the windshield.

So, any advice?

 

I am currently using Trico NeoForm blades (beam blade) and while they wipe well, they develop chattering after about 6 months. The only reason I am sill using them is when I complained to Trico they sent me a second set for free.So I was going to suggest the Rain-X Latitude (also a beam blade)blades. They rate among the best and supposed to last longer than others. I think I"ll try these next, after the second set of NeoForms wear out, or drive me nuts.
I know of others that are using the Bosch beams and like them too.

 

You've probably already replaced your blades or inserts by now, but my recommendation would be to use Exact Fit refills, available at NAPA Auto Parts (the blades and refills are made by Trico, I believe, and they're pretty good quality products). The refills cost about half of what new blades do. Buying them from NAPA allows you to get the precise size and fit for your O.E. blade, whereas some other parts suppliers sell a universal size refill that you have to break and/or cut to fit. I use them on all my vehicles (5), and have for years. In fact, I just keep a spare pair in each vehicle (you always find out when the weather's crappy that you need new ones, so you might as well have then on hand so you canputthem inand see), and buy again when I install them. Note: installation requires a pair of pliers to remove the refill's securing clip.

Also keep in mind: Due to the harsh conditions that they endure, wiper blades tend to have a lifespan of only 6mos or so. Expect to change them about twice a year, for optimum performance. Unless you buy a cheapie-brand, a 6-month life expectancy is not too much to ask.

I agree w/Bernzilla, just buy refills...they're cost-effective and replacing the WHOLE blade is not needed. i've been buying refills for mine ever since i bought the car and they work just as well. a side-note: i read a CONSUMER REPORTS article on this very subject and they discovered that the cheapest bran RE-FILLS worked BETTER than the fancy replacement blades INCLUDING Rain-X and Trico! look it up! i was stunned but since you should replace them every 6 mos. anyway, it doesnt make much sense to spend $$ on something fancy schmancy thats gonna be replaced in a few months anyway!
