Default Water pump 3.7l, should I take the engine out?

Hi, I own a 2009 Mazda6 3.7L 200K km, and I'm almost ready to replace the water pump, that is leaking too much. In this model the water pump is behind the timing chain, so I'm not sure if it is possible to make this repair with the engine still on the car, or it will way easier to take it ou (I already have a hoist). I have been told that the timing cover can break when priying it out, so I should be extra careful. I have replaced other water pumps in other vehicles, but I'm no expert by any means, thanks.
