tuning on the speed 6

what kind of engine only mods are out there fot the speed 6 in the means of chips injectors, i am thinking about taking an engine for the build up of the caterham i am building. although 274hp in a 1300lb car is plenty it would be nice to break 300 on hp and ftlbs

Uh, there's not much out there right now. Right now, everything is probably mainly a custom job. At least, I can't find anything out there except through MazdaSPEED.

? its time to start making some stuff, custom intercooler, exahust, dry sump setup

if you are going for additional torque and horspower, you are going to need to put that power to the ground and not have a clumsy vehicle. I would highly suggest some urethane engine mounts to achieve better shifts and control over your vehicle. You can upgrade your BOV as well as your downpipe and exhaust, then you have plenty of room to upgrade your turbo/headers/cats with excessive gains instead of restrictions. also, get some lighter rims, remove excess weight, find a lighter battery, etc.

the exhaust will be straight a simple and since its a kit car it dosnt have to meet standards wich meens no cats. the urethane mounts are a given. i am planning on putting the widest tires i can fit under those tiny ass fenders but i could use some additional boost and some high output injectors

Well, for boost, you can get a boost controller, injectors will require engine mapping, you may be able to use something like a predator programmer, or you can pay a couple hundred for a custom job. There are 2 places I think, that make headers, you can find those in one of the other threads, I haven't had much luck looking online. BOV and Wastegate are pretty much universal parts you can get through places like HKS, GReddy, etc. Right there should put you at 300 hp, especially if you spend for a little dyno tuning. Intake, exhaust, and programming would prolly be enough to get a stock speed 6 up to 300 hp. Or just add a couple psi boost.

depending how badly you want to use the full engine, it's gonna be a bit dificult. if you are going custom anyhow, why use this in normal form? you can get a 2.3 block, full internals, Cosworth has a head, Turbo kit and be BETTER than what you can do out of the box with speed's engine. just doesn't make sense to me? i can outrun any speed i've seen and i'm in an automatic.

there's more options than just the newest version of the engine....old isn't always bad

RE: tuning on the speed 6

the thought was to find a totaled speed6 with a good power plant and start from there. the cisworth engine would probably be faster but at a much higher price

RE: tuning on the speed 6

you can get a bottom end for under 1k, new internals for $1300, head for 1800 (if you want a Cosworth one) or $800 for stock head with aftermarket valvetrain (what i'm running and can roll up past 8k no prob)....$1400 for the Microtech standalone (or other if you want)

Cosworth engine goes for like 18k plus, so i don't expect many to go that route. but if you go through some junked 2.3's and just get the internals you can go pretty cheap. i think car-parts.com had some used engines (full) for $1200.

again, just thoughts. but if you wanna go with the new one, i just don't know how you are going to control it, and make sure you take the whole fuel system as the DISI system needs some pretty vital components.

I want to go broke at this website making my speed 6 a little faster. If their claims are correct (debateable), I can put on a catback, downpipe, and intake for 50 hp or more at the wheels. I feel like a little kid excited about christmas!
