Tune up.
We are supposed to get the plugs changed @ 30,000 miles. What is going on? I had a Jeep and it was after 100,000 miles. Has anyone reached 30 k yet and had it done? Is it really all that nessecary?

RE: Tune up.
i actually haven't looked into that... that is kind of odd to have plugs changed so early

RE: Tune up.
nah, that is someone trying to get some money off of you!

RE: Tune up.
well have you ever seen your plugs and wires after 100k miles
they are shot to hell i would never go that long witout changing them id say do what the book says they do say it for a reason just buy yourself some good plugs and wires and go by what you think it will last after that |
RE: Tune up.
i've always replaced my plugs about every 40-50k miles... or unless i've run into performance issues that were noticeable to me. i've never run into issues waiting this long for plugs to go noticeably bad... so i think mazda is just being cautious with their 30k mile plug change (to keep performance going strong)

RE: Tune up.
OKay, thanks guys!

RE: Tune up.
Would you guys just go with what the dealer would put it, or should I toss in some Bosch PLatinum 4's or something?

RE: Tune up.
I would go with what the dealership puts sells for your car. becuase if you have problems down the road, its better to be safe and have the ones that the manufacturer recomends. The four prong spark plugs dont make a difference anyways. I have 48,000 miles on my car and I havent changed my plugs yet, it all depends on how you drive your car, plugs will last a long time. I am technician at a volkswagen dealership, so I am gonna do all the work my self, if i come across a performance problem then I will replace them, but until then they are fine.

RE: Tune up.
Where did you get 30,000 from? Even the Schedule 2 (Unique Driving Condition) has replacement set for every 60,000. Not absolute positive but I think the plugs are iridium type with a platinum grounding tip.

RE: Tune up.
I had my plugs changed at 58000 miles and regretted doing it. I tried to upgrade to a performance plug which was recommended for the 6 and blew my intake which cost me 700 dollars to repair. After that I went back to the original plugs but I had no indication that it was time for a change I was just looking for more power.
