Totally dead brake lights?

Hi all...any suggestions?

I was driving home and somebody pulled up next to me and told me that my brake lights are totally out. Headlights, rear parking lights, license plate lights all work (I know that according to the manual they are on 1 fuse).

Now I have to drive to the dealership tomorrow on the highway - 32 miles - w/o brake lights?!?!?!!!!!!!

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Sorry - 2006 6i.

Perhaps it is the brake light switch?

In any case, I wish it was something I could fix tonight, since I am nervous about driving all that way tomorrow....I don't think people pay much attention to hand signals in general, let alone on the highway at 70mph!

RE: Totally dead brake lights?

Would check the 20 Amp fuse in the underhood fuse/relay box first off. First pic below shows that fuse highlighted in yellow in center. Locations of fuses are also on the underside of the fuse box cover. If it is blown and do not have any spares then look in the underdash fuse box just to the left of drivers feet. The three fuses on the far right side are all spares for you to use.

If that checks ok then make sure the brake switch has not come unplugged. It is to the rear of the brake pedal arm and has a large flat, white button that contacts the pedal. Make sure that contact is moving when applying and releasing brake pedal and also check that connector is solid plugged in. Second pic is of the switch but may not come out great as it is a bit cramped under there.
