Default Sounds Like Popcorn

Happy Thanksgiving all;

Recently, I've noticed a sound coming from under hood that I would best describe as the sound of popcorn popping rapidly. It is not constant, but does happen quite frequently. It's not a particularly loud sound, but sometimes it is more noticeable than others and can happen while driving or at idle. I don't feel anything and the car runs fine. My car is an '06 V6 with just under 120,000 miles on it. Any ideas?

PS:

no, I didn't leave a bag of microwave popcorn in the engine bay :-)

Could be the purge valve solenoid. There was a TSB on it that I've attached as screenshots. Mine sounded like what you're describing.

My 06 mazda6s has same problem.
I had the problem before warranty expired. The dealer just said it is normal.

What happen if I don't fix now? Will it OK to drive?

Please reply

Thanks.

If it's the valve, mechanically it's not an issue. It's just an annoyance to listen to.

The popcorn sound comes back again. Changing pcv valve could not help.
