radio, clock & stearing controls issues

I have a 2004 Mazda6. I had to let the car sit for a little more than a week and the battery went dead (an issue I need to figure out since it shouldn't have died...new battery & nothing that should've killed it). Since then, the radio functions and the displays function, but none of the radio buttons work yet I can use the knobs to tune in different stations & change the volume (and turn it on & off). I can't set any of the preset, use the seek or scan button, change the track on the CD player, etc. The clock works, but I can't set it to have the correct time. The button for the outside temperature reading doesn't work so I can't turn that on (ASB button I think it is). Then, none of the buttons for the radio on the steering wheel work, yet, I can use the buttons for the cruise control on the right side of the steering wheel. Anybody have any ideas??

RE: radio, clock & stearing controls issues

I had this same problem on my 04 mazda 6 V6. What I did to solve it was to disconnect the battery, remove the radio from the dashboard, unplugged all the cables from the radio. After 5 minutes I plugged all the cables back, fixed the radio back in position and connected the battery and everything was okay.
Removing the radio fromthedashboard is a little tricky, for one you will have to loose and remove an M6stud that holds the radio in place. To do this you must remove the glove compartment (jockey box) door to access this little stud. You will probably need a socket spanner to do this. You will also need to pull out A/c control knubto loose the screwsunderneath.
I hope this works for you as well.

The simple method of disconnecting the battery for 10 mins, and discharging any storages of charge as described in the previous link seems the bes 1st step. it worked for me. The next step may be necessary for some.
