okay, so I've searched and searched, and I cannot find my manual, and I can't seem to find a thread about what KIND of power steering fluid to use..

anybody have any suggestions/what is recommended in the Mazda 6?

any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

You didn't specify your year, or why you're needing to top it off.
This applies to vehicles using the classic belt driven steering servo pumps, I don't know what those horrible electro-hydraulic systems use.
Mazdas generally use Dexron II or III (Dexron III is backwards compatible with II), but don't take my word for it. Clean the crud off the filler cap and you will see that it has "the right stuff" imprinted on the top of the cap. Failing that, ask a Mazda mechanic.
Don't even think of using any of the "miracle brands" out there which claim to do miraculous things for your steering.
The formal generic designation for this stuff is "ATF M-III or equivalent".

had a hunch it was dextron III but wasn't 100% sure. just curious. its getting a bit dingy and could use a drain and fill. i'll just have to ask my every day local mazda mechanic.
Thanks!
