Had a P0404 fault code - EGR problem. Replaced EGR but every time I turn off the CEL it comes back onafter a few days with P0404 again. Car is running fine just cant get rid of the CEL. Any ideas?

 

Are you positive that it was the EGR Valve itself causing the code? What model do you have, & what is the mileage?

 

Its a 2004 2.0 Diesel Sport thats done 131000

 

there should be a sensor connected with a vacuum (i know diesels lack vacuum) line to the egr or the intake system that senses the pressure the egr valve makes when it opens & lack of pressure when it closes. this can cause egr codes if it has failed. we do not have the diesel 2.0 in US otherwise i could give u specs, but that could also be the cause. or a related movement sensor attached to the egr?
