Oops, Drove through water - now it won't run

Last night, while driving home in a rain/snow storm, I accidentally drove my 2003/6 through about 3 inches of water for about 30 yards. Came out OK then about 1/4 mile later engine light starts to blink, then came on constantly. Car began to lose power and finally wouldn't run at all. It's now sitting at the dealer's waiting its turn in the shop.

Any ideas what could be wrong? How much is it going to cost me?

BTW: this was the culmination of a really bad afternoon. 12:00 insurance adjuster at the house to tell me how much they'll pay of the damage incurred from Hurricane Sandy. 2:00 dentist for a root canal. Then this on my way home.

If it went in to intake you'll have to change your shorted out MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor, it's electrical.
You could have short in wiring harness somewhere as well.
Hopefully you didn't suck in too much water.
Do you have stock intake or CAI, SRI. CAI is worst in puddle driving.

Well I'm hosed...

According the service mgr it needs a new engine!

He checked for water and found none. Ran both wet and dry compression and none of the cylinders was up to spec. Checked the timing and chain and markings were fine. Pulled the oil pan and saw that someone, unbeknownst to me, had done some bottom end work as he saw non-OEM markings on the crank bearings. He suspects that the work wasn't done properly or was done cheaply and the cylinders are out of round - hence the poor compression.

Anyone know of an engine supplier in the Northeast?

The dealer says they run about $2K plus $1,500 labor to install. Does this seem fair?

Hell of a day...

I'd be shopping the junk yards.
