Convert it to a spin-on filter. I don't know if Mazda could void your warranty for it - after all, you'd be using their parts

By the way, you can get the factory cartridge filters online at http://www.finishlineperformance.com or http://www.mazdastuff.com for $5.79 and $5.69 respectively. If you order over $150 from Finishline Performance or $100 from Mazda Stuff, ground shipping is free. Load up on the maintenance goods and some extra Mazdaspeed toys Not a commercial, just a happy customer. They've always beat my local dealerships on any part I've ordered.

Please give me "one good reason" why you do not want to buy a mazda oil filter.Do you think your going to save a dollar, wow.Oh guess what,i work for Mazda and whe n you can prove to me that anywhere in the owner's that is states 'GO AHEAD AND US SOMEONE ELSE'S PARTS" then you can call me a liar ok. Why do you state "THAT YOU SHOULD USE A GENUINE FACTORY OIL FILTER ONLY IF YOU OWN A HIGH END BENZ,JAG OR FERRARI' ,give your head a shake ok !!!! It's still an engine that costs lots of money !! Why the difference ?? Please let me know when you find this info !!! Oh,,,,if you decide to go with a "ROLL OF TOILET PAPER for a filter, don't go to a Mazda dealer with and internal engine failure, you will be laughed right out of the dealership !! PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT !!!!

ok, where in the manual/warranty info does it state that "Mazda oil filters must be used to not void a warranty", it does not state that. I have had my oil changed 3 times, all at the dealership, using there parts, not mine. Someone asked for a suggestion, I provided one. No one said that Mazda products are totally useless and should not be used. I would be more inclined to use what the manufacturer suggest on a high end car, than on a Mazda. The Mazda is a $15k vehicle, where as the other one mentioned are valued at over $100k, probably more than your house. Mr. ServiceMgr, I am glad you work at a Mazda dealership and are proud and stick by the product you maintain, I take pride in my car as well. So should anyone that owns a car, not use aftermarket parts, should there be no aftermarket parts available, since they are not genuine Mazda parts? Please, give me your reason that a K&N oil filter can not be used, or a reason why it will void your warranty. It wont, no one said it will. I have no problem taking my car to the dealership and having the oil changed and them using dealer parts. If i did, I would not have my oil changed there.

whats with the personal attacks here, someone have a case of jealousy casue they have to work on Mazda's and can't drive one. This is ridiculous man, the car was $15,150 when purchased, brand new, 06 model. With depriciation I would say its worth less. Plus I have another car, purchased in 04, a Saturn Ion, purchased for about $17k. I take care of both cars, maintain regularly, thank you very much. I dont drink beer, its to cheap. I take care of my cars. I know you are a new member here on the forum, i understand that, you may not know the rules of being on a forum. one of the rules is, no personal attacks on other forum members. now I didnt say I dont take care of my car cause its not worth more than $100k, i said I would be more inclined to NOT use aftermarket parts on that type of car since the engines are normally hand made to more exacting standards, not produced on an assembly line, such as Ford, Mazda and the other import/domestic brands. I do take care of my cars, and my house and everything else I have. Please stop with the personal attacks, you dont know me, i dont know you. If you dont want to use aftermarket parts on your car, you dont have to, thats fine, thats you. Other people might have different opinions in regards to that.

wow. what did i start here? All I asked was if I had any other options for a oil filter. I would only trust one other oil filter other then the Mazda. That's the K&N. But they do not offer a oil filter for the 2.3L. At my dealership, they use citgo oil and a motorcraft oil filter. I know for a fact that the oil is not the best. But I will stay with the stock oil filter. People, you need to cool your jets. Unless you get a oil filter out of cereal box, I dont think it will cause a engine to blow. Fram, K&N or even Mazda's would do just fine.

servicemgr, if you are a really service manager at any Mazda dealership then you need to get your head on straight. You do realize that there are only so many filter manufacturers in the country and Mazda, Ford, Chevy, etc, etc use them as suppliers. I don't have any specific examples off the top of my head, but do you really think Mazda is going to import Nipon filters from Japan? Hell no, it would cost too much so they have domestic suppliers. Those domestic suppliers might make a Mazda AJ04-14-302B filter for a 6s, but guess what; they make an identical Ford Motorcraft FL-820s you can buy at Wal-Mart for $3 too. While I'm sure Wal-Mart isn't going to carry a cartridge L321-14-302-9U (maybe they do?), you can bet your *** Napa, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, and Auto Zone stock a counterpart for it. If a filter was installed incorrectly and engine damage was a result, I would understand; but, I'll be damned if any service manager says my warranty is void just because I used an "aftermarket" filter. From your logic, if I had a powertrain warranty claim, you'd void my warranty because I put RainX in my washer fluid instead of Mazda's.

By the way Baby Huey, with a gasket pinched what is the average distance/time interval between the oil change and the resulting empty sump? Is it something that could be found if the oil was checked once a week, or are we talking same-day failure here?
