Noob: Buying a Mazda 6 questions!

Hi,

I'm currently looking to get a Mazda 6 - I just like the car on a lot of levels and I have heard how reliable, etc. they are.

I'm looking to get an 04 @ 75k Milage (Diesel as well) for around £4.5k

I wondered if there was anything I should be looking for when purchasing one? I also wondered if there was some kind of service schedule someone could link me to (i.e. when certain parts need replacing like the timing belt, etc.)

Thanks a lot!

Not sure about the diesel (we didn't get that option here across the pond), but the 2.3L 4cyl and the 3.0L V6 both have timing chains rather than belts.

Sorry it is a chain...

I was just using that as an example... is there anything else that regularly needs changing every x miles?

Is there known faults?

Thanks,

M.

Oil, and the usual fluids. The gas (petrol) engines occasionally had an issue with their PCV valve...not sure if diesels even have those though. With that many miles I'd check the shocks and make sure they are in good condition, and don't need replacing. That's all I can think of off the top off my head.

Also I have 74k miles on my 2005 and have been racing it for 3 years or so, and the only problems I have had are a few breakages from the stresses of track usage, 1 set of rear endlinks and most recently my rear dogbone engine mount has torn a bushing. But neither of these would have likely occurred without track duty stress.

FWIW - My wife's Mazda6 Sportwagon has over 94,000 miles (151000km+) and it's still in great shape only having to replace a couple things (2 coilpacks) other than typical wear items & maintenance (tires/brakes/spark plugs, + oil and trans fluid changes) Owned it since new in 2004.

Some of the lights on the upper radio display have started to wierd out (losing individual sections of some numbers)

All told it's been a great car thus far.

Thanks for the info!

Are there no service intrerval parts that need replacing then other than the usual oil / filters?
