Default Newbie with a Mazda 6 Sportwagon

Hey Guys,

I am newbie owner of a black Mazda Certified 2004 6s Sportwagon. I test drove the sportwagon 2 times and just loved it. I was on the fence with this and Passat wagon and leaned on this Mazda for the more sporty ride and handling. I needed to move up in space from my Audi A4 and this car fits the bill. I am getting used to the clutch pickup and shifter compared to my A4 plus the handling of front wheel drive. It seems on the high side.

Anybody give any pointers on this model? Some top hits and any misses to look out for.

BTW, I looked to fill the tank up and read the manual. The 6 cylinder runs on 87 only regular? If we put 89 or 93 the engine won't advance the timing by recogning the higher gas octane rating? Is this a Mazda 6 cylinder or the Ford Duratec 6 cylinder..just to make sure. With that mean headlight cluster in the front end, I thought I had fog lights...i do not dam it. Sure as heck looks like I do with all those bulbs in there.

Looking forward to tinting the rear windows, ordering a K&N Filter for it and may consider the rear spoiler on the hatchback. Other than that, she looks great stock in black.

Thanks All.

With the 6s Sport Wagon you should have fog lights, it's a small twist switch on the headlight stalk just in from the end. They are the most inboard lights I believe. My wife loves hers and we've had 45,000 trouble free miles. It is the Ford 3.0L V6 but that doesn't bother me in the least. We get around 22-24 mpg so it does just fine on gas.

I checked on the headlight stalk and no luck. I don't have them, dam it. Looking at the headlight cluster I thought I did. I guess they probably have a dummy lense in there where it is supposed to be.

Thanks!

Yes, your car runs on 87 octane gas. Don't waste your money on higher octane gas...87 is just fine, and is what's called for by the manufacturer Cheers,

David

The Foglight thing is an option,My wagon doesn't have it,but my 5-door does! I switched out all the lights on my 5-door to H.I.D.'S though anyway, including the PIAA x-1 FOGS

anybody try to install the foglights through the stock headlight cluster? If not, did you run them below and punch out the plastic vents below the lower bumper grille?

Those panels in the lower bumper are easy to pop out.

I agree, those panels are easy to get out,You can even go on e-bay and buy a set of foglights made to fit those for like 59.00 with a stock button that will fit in the stock location in the dash!

I owned an 04 SportWagon and I agree with using 87 octane.
