thats not too bad considering for my snow tires on my 3 costed me 600 but it was all 4 with rims. i think you should bite the bullet and get them. cuz 500 is better then a tire blowing out and needing a new rim. my 02.

Obviously you live somewhere that make the tires you are buying so cheap (damn that supply and demand thing) :D. The stock tires here where I live are around250 a pop. 185 was the best I could beat anybody up for unless I went to a cheaper less performance tire, nope didn't want to. I put a set of goodyear eagle edge on my 2005 great tire for this car IMO they were 800 Cdn when all done.

I personally have had nothing but heartache and grief from Good Year tires, andtheir CS, including the so-called HP, All-Season RS-A's that came on my 3. They are over-hyped, over-priced junk imo. And their CS ppl will take you in circles for hours trying to convince you how great their tires are and how they are soooo worth the money too. I couldn't WAIT till they wore out so I could justify new ones.

Oh, yeah: Try Kumhos! Got 225/45's Ecsta ASX's (All-Season) for $90 ea. mounted and balanced. Or, Falken's are a good choice on a budget too.
The Kumho's are better cornering tires and have a pretty good ride and wear rating, where as the Falken's have better straight line traction but ride a bit harder and wear out a bit faster too.

Just my .02.

If you are sure you want new wheels, then i would recomend staying in th 17" range, certainly no bigger than 18" (going bigger than that complicates fitment and finding the correct tires. as for specs look for offsets between 55 & 48mm, widths around 7" - 7.5", and a weight of 27lbs or less (any more will result in a loss of performance). As for websites, www.tirerack.com is a good one. For the tires I'd recomend going with what Virgin1 said. Though I would add Yokohamas to that list too.

Where does one get new rims? Would tire stores have them, or would it be better to get them online?

Shopping online is much easier and the selection is obviously bigger than any one store might have.
But, you could research what you wanted online and then see if you could buy locally? Sometimes local stores will match online pricing too, but be sure to have a recent printout or price quote with you.
Or, since most online tires stores offer pretty quick shipping (2-3 days) and will often mount, balance and give you new lug nuts, etc as an all-in-one package, you might make out better that way. Then all you have to do is install them when they come and make sure the pressure is correct.
I liked doing it that way. For me it worked out perfectly, but I am a home owner and have my own air compressor too.

A great website for you will be tirerack.com.Be careful if you buy new wheels the off set of the new wheel is critical.I bought a set of new wheels and upsized from the original 215/50/17 to a 235/45/17 and if someone was sitting in the back seat or hit a big bump my rear tires hit the fenderwell.since then i downsized to a 225/45/17 and have no longer have this problem.Anyway tirerack is a great site with tires and wheels and an easy program to navigate thru. When buying tires read the user reviews(they were written buy the buyers not the tire manufacturers) first to get a good quality tire. The easiest way to mess up your ride quality is with a cheap set of tires.I work at a tire store so if you have any questions give me a shout.
