Need some quick info on a 04 Mazda 6
Hello, I myself do not own this car, it is a friends of mine. I myself own a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi (all wheel drive, turbo, 5 speed) Anyway forced induction is nothing new to me at all. And I have a friend here thats wanting me to help him turbo charge his 6. And im haveing trouble finding a few things we need.
What I need to know is where I can find a thicker than stock head gaskit. I would like to know what the stock thickness is, and again where I can find some that are thicker. Also some ARP head studs, and where I can find a turbo manifold. Also is there any other mazda engine I can get some oil squirters from? hmm.. I am also curious as to what the 2.3L engine can handle, whats most likely to brake first? rods or something else?
Were wanting to go with a Greddy GT28R turbo which is a ball bareing turbo. I need to know what type of flange this turbo use's and where I can get a cast manifold for it. Or if we will have to construct a custom tubuler (dont like them personaly)\

manifold from HiBoost, Hass, SCI or F2 (think he has some still). ARP studs, just order the ones for then focus 2.3. stock rods good into the 10psi range or so, stock mtx tranny not good much more than that anyhow.

10psi is it? Well I know this is kind of a stupid question thats not easy to answer, but any idea what kinda of air flow/fuel requirements /hp 10psi would generate with the fallowing.

My friend was looking at a kit a local shop was offering useing the same turbo, and there "kit" only called for 480cc injectors which was a shock to me, as that seems extreamly small imo. Then again I only say that cause the 4G63 in my car use's 450's stock. Of course I expected more than 10psi so I was recomending he get "at least" 550's.
He's trying to get 300whp out of the engine, which I originaly thought wouldn't be hard at all with a 2.3L engine. But with what little I am learning about the engine now im starting to think he might have to do a little internal work to reinforce the engine. I also dont like the fact that it's not a "square" engine. Meaning it's bore and stroke are not real close. Square engine's normally love FI.
I am also concerened that the stock NA pistons will be prone to knock, does anyone have any info to support my theory? Or have any other sudjestions on area's of the engine that need to be re-enforced or modified to RELIABLY take and make 300whp?
Also I found the hiboost website but im haveing trouble locateing the others, even with googles help lol.

Hass kinda went out of business, but you can find their stuff through turbokits.com, they should have some manifolds still. i think SCI is sportcompactindustries.com but not sure (they are on mazda3forums.com), F2car.com has manifolds used for GT turbo's on the focus i believe, so you'd have to email Ricardo, the owner.
you are correct on the engine. the longer stroke leads to issues on the 2.3 where the 2.0 is more liking to boost. plenty of parts for upgrades thought. Crower, Carillo and Eagle have rods (look at the focus sometimes helps), Supertech and Wisesco have pistons in lower compression as well.
I ran 36lb injectors up to 15lbs without seeing A/F issues. there is an issue with some injectors on the block as the spray pattern is precise, and changing that (in conjuction with the VTCS setup) leads to a rough idle for many injectors. i have a set of 60lb injectors that i can't use yet for this reason, but will be trying again with the new manifold.
10psi could be close to 300 as people are seeing 275 on 8psi, but the higher you go, while keeping the smaller, quick spooling turbos, the more like to loose the tranny (3rd gear to be more precise). there are a couple options out there for stonger gears, but they aren't exactly cheap.

480's are more than enough for 10psi. though as long as you tune it, 550's would be fine and have more cushion than the lower ones obviously
the GT28r is more than capable of making the power, i just don't know if it can make it in the threshold the 2.3 can support on the stock bottom end

So your saying you would recomend some eagle rods? and hell if he wants to go that far i'll just sudjest lowering the compression with new pistons as opposed to a thicker head gaskit.
im also curious how much you can safely bore out this engine? I doubt he will want to go that far, but to get the engine more, square im just curious and figure what the hell i'll let him know it's an option.

though compression is on the high side, the weak point is the rods. in most cases, it's easier/smarter to just upgrade the pistons at the same time. i'm not saying you should or have to replace the parts to run 8-10psi, but if you are going to jump on a dyno and crank it until you hit 300whp.....then yeah, i'd suggest playing it safe.
Well safe power is exactly what were after. Also im not seeing any lower compression pistons anywhere. Also I edited post 7 with another question on boreing the engine out.

HiBoost is getting just shy of 600hp on the 2.3 with just internals (meaning s/out boring) so i don't think it's a need yet. there a couple shops that say they can go out to 2.5, though i don't know the exact bore specs.
i'm running a built block and have no issue running into 20psi at all, would go higher but the turbo won't hang (and i don't need more than that at this point)
