This is my Transmission Oil Colour

6, 2.3L petrol Sport

It's a little pink, but mainly brown. What do people do? Get a mchanic to replace all of the gear oil (flush), or just drain what comes out - not all will come out - and replace (change)?

Take a photo of the Oil on the dipstick.

Mazda ATF goes brown very quickly, you can't really tell how old or worn it is by colour alone. Does it smell burnt?

HI. Dipstick is black metal unfortunately. Here it is on paper too. Doesn't smel burned to me. Bought this car at 125,000km, don[t know if ATF oil has been changed. Probably not.[img]https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mazdaforum.com-vbulletin/2000x1504/80-20180625_211417_007570ba799b93b81e73c34bb27521b740 ac5469.jpg

Doesn't look too bad. No harm in changing it for piece of mind.

4 speed or 5 speed auto?

Thanks grim. 5 speed auto Sport. LOVE this car! Get mechanic to replace all, or just keep replacing what comes out maybe every second oil change? Rather long video but he talks about auto gear oil and how/when/maybe to change.

p.s. I need to change RHS CV joint and probably a rear hub/bearing. Seems quite soon at 125kkm.

grim_reaper 06-25-2018 05:01 AM

CV joints are very uncommon, even the rubber boot lasts a long time.

Rear bearing is bad luck, altho someone may of hit too many curbs &/or pot holes.

I used to work for Mazda in NZ & now work for Mazda in Queensland.

Mazda Australia has stopped supplying genuine Mazda ATF to suit you vehicle, & instead recommends using Castrol Transmax Multivehicle.

I had a 2007 Atenza Sports wagon in NZ before moving to OZ. Great vehicle.

Simon Gilmour 06-25-2018 05:31 AM

Rubber is absolutely perfect. CV is not :( .

I wonder whether the Sport suspension takes its toll on CVs and particularly bearings. Tried to re-lube inner and then outer CV when I started to hear noises - grease was disturbingly liquid - (it started clicking only when engine cold to begin with (could warm vehicle without movement and it would solve clicking) - but now have clicking while turning sharply so I think deifinitely outer CV). My 95 corolla has done 340km and still has original CV's

Thanks for tip, will look for Castrol Transmax Multivehicle.

Got roof painted when I bought it. Dots of rust on roof. I've heard this is common; hoping it doesn't come back!
