Default Mazda6 Upgrades. Suggestions?

Just got an 04 Mazda 6s 5 speed Hatchback. I want to do a little bit of work to it. Drop it maybe about an inch or even less with some quality springs. Get some simple 18 Inch rims. A good air intake system to improve MPG and boost the HP alittle, and maybe replace the pipes or just the mufflers to something better looking and sounding. I dont want to compromise the life of the car or anything else, so who has some suggestions about what parts and brands might work for me? Thanks guys.

For intakes you have several options:
1. CP-e CAI/ MAFci = this one gives the bigest boost in power due to the MAFci that is paired with it, but it also costs a good bit (like $500).
2. AEM CAI = standard hp bump, but the dry flow filter is nice since you never have to oil it.
3. Mazdaspeed CAI = basically just a rebadged AEM intake
4. K&N CAI= I honestly don't know much about this system other than the fact that it exists.

Now then, for the drop you are looking for I'd say go with either Racingbeat or Mazdaspeed "hatch" springs. The hatch part is important because they have linear springs in the rear rather than the progressive ones that come with the sedan kit. If you are interested in what the car will look like with the mazdaspeed springs and 18" wheels look at the pics in this thread. (yes that is my car)

Oh, a couple of sites you may want to check out are www.therpmstore.com and www.protegegarage.com. They both have plenty of parts for our cars and excellent customer service.

Good luck and Happy modding!

Is your car, the one in the picture, a mazdaspeed? Or just a mazda6?

Default Mazda6

I just bought a used 2004 4 cylinder Mazda6 Sedan. I was thinking about putting a cold air intake system in first of all and i was wondering (just as borninmotion) about which kind to get? I've looked around and was leaning a bit towards to the AEM CAI. Secondly, if i were to lower it, would it differ any from your response to borninmotion, considering his is a hatchback? And mine is a sedan? And last, is it possible to put a cd player in the 2004 mazda6's? The ac/heat controls look awfully close to the audio controls. I'm pretty new at all this car stuff, so try not to be too harsh haha.

It's an 05 mazda6 S hatchback. I have a Mazdaspeed CAI, Mazdaspeed "hatch" springs, Bilstien shocks, Racingbeat front and rear swaybars, and AWR endlinks.

For the I4 it really doesn't matter which intake you get, they all make about the same power. I love the AEM dryflow filters since you don't have to oil them.
For the drop, yeah, I'd say look at the same ones, as they are linear springs rather than progressive and thus are more predictable in their handling characteristics. If you can find a set the has a similar drop as the mazdaspeed springs, that's designed for the 6i and has linear springs then by all means, go for it! Otherwise, stick with my suggestions.

Finally, yes it is possible to put an aftermarket cd player in the 6. You will need the Metra dash kit, but it's more than possible, and there are planty of people who have done so.
