Default MAZDA 6 Timing Belt Kit Help Please

Hi there,

I have a 2006 Mazda 6 2.0 Diesel

I need to do the 75k service.

As far as I'm aware this involves the timing belt kit change, replacing fuel filter, oil filter/oil change, and replacing air filter and glow plugs.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Finally, and perhaps most importantly I'm struggling in find a timing belt kit and one that has everything I need. I believe I must ensure the hydraulic tensioner and water pump is changed when doing the cam belt change? I have been advised to only buy a kit from Gates.

Any confirmation, thoughts, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

As a tech I would always advise the waterpump and tensioner/idler pulleys to be replaced, more of an in for a penny sort of thought. Also because what happens if 20k Later the pump collapses? Got to do it all again! As for the service parts, I wouldn't have thought that the glowplugs would require changing although I would reccomend a pollen filter if fitted

On a side note, does anyone know of any threads or pages out there that has a collection of pictures or a guide to show how awkward it is to change the cambelt? Ive been asked by a friend to do one, the only time ive worked on a 6 was on the v6 and I had to take the dashboard out for another garage to find the aircon leak :@ I dont want to start and tyen find that im in over my head without another technician to consult.

Thanks in advance for any replies, hope I've helped you out some how Micheal.

Just had a look at the workshop manual for a 2005/06 Australian Mazda 6 Diesel, doesn't look anymore difficult than any other Mazda cambelt.
