Mazda 6 HID Conversion (High intensity discharge headlights)
I'm considering upgrading my stock lights to the HID variety; however, I would like to complete this task properly and in accordance to a recommended install. I have a 2007 mazda6. I love the headlights on the Mazda6, the fixtures are sleek and the bulbs are perfectly positioned, in my opinion.
So what is the best and most functional method to install HID's? Do I have to replace the headlight fixture with an aftermarket HID compatible fixtures, or do I just install the HID kit in the existing stock headlight fixture? I've seen some sloppy HID installs that are blinding! My primary concern is that I do not want to become a road hazard to other drivers :eek:, and I want my HID beams to be focused functional not scattered. Not to mention, I want my HID's to look cool! You seem to know how and what you want. You also seem to have done some homework already. That's GREAT!! Welcome to the site, macthorough!! As long as the kit is installed in the projectors only you should be good to go. You may want, or even have to readjust the low beams down a bit after the install. I lowered mine just to the point where I wasn't being flashed all the time by other drivers. Some still do, but I believe they are reacting to the high output and color of the light, not to any real glare. It is illegal and dangerous in all places I know of, to install a kit in std reflector housings. That's when others get blinded and you yourself cannot see well due to a lot of scattered, unusable light. |
Good news is that the 6 has projector housings stock so all you really need to do is get a set of bulbs and ballasts & swap them out with the stock bulbs. Basically install involves just drilling out a hole in the dust caps for the wires on the HID bulbs and hooking up the ballasts that go with them. Out of curiosity, what wattage and bulb temp are you looking at getting? If you haven't looked into it, the info for the bulbs & their output are as follows:
Temp Color 35 watt 55watt 3000K Yellow 3200 lumens 4800 lumens 4500K White 3400 lumens 5000 lumens 5000K White w/ little blue 3300 lumens 4900 lumens 6000K bluish white 3200 lumens 4800 lumens 8000K sky blue 3100 lumens 4700 lumens 10000K dark sky blue 2900 lumens 4500 lumens 12000K darker sky blue 2700 lumens 4300 lumens ....and formatting on this site sucks, so this is the best I can do for layout. |
It looks good from here, Cameron... better in the e-mail notification though. Basically, I was trying to discourage, or at least make the point that installing HID conversions in a std reflector housing, such as the high beams in my 3 series (and the 6 too, I believe,) would be irresponsible, what he is trying to avoid. |
Ah ok, I'm with you there. In addition to that, HID's are a poor choice for high beams anyways. Owing to the nature of high beam usage (HID's don't like being used for flashes or being turned off and on repetitively).

Aiming headlights?
On the subject of headlights... where are the aiming screws on the 2010 Mazda 3?

The are usually found somewhere on the rear of the headlight housing, but specifically, I have no clue.

Does anybody have headlight wiring diagram for 2003 mazda6? Bought car with messed up HID lights. No brights and only one light works.
