mazda 6 brakes
Trying to put new front rotors on. There are 2 phillips screws holding them on. IMPOSSIBLE to loosen! Any ideas?

wd-40 !

RE: mazda 6 brakes
agreed, wd-40 works pretty good... if you do that and that doesn't help, you can try heating them up a bit or take a screw driver and tap around the edges of those darn screws with a mallet hitting the screw driver.

RE: mazda 6 brakes
also, are you putting on aftermarket rotors or just new blank rotors? just keep in mind that if you are using aftermarket slotted rotors, they are not road legal and you will not pass your state inspection (unless you take them off before you get your vehicle inspected).

Good Lord, you're kidding? The laws in your state are that draconian..??? |
RE: mazda 6 brakes
good lord, how would that have anything to do with state inspection?? i've never heard of any issues outside of anything emissions related??
anyhow, as far as getting the screws out. a lot of autoparts stores loan tools out nowadays. there is a device referred to as a punch, or impact driver or something? it's basically a screwdriver that you put in place and then hit the end with a hammer or mallot. works great. |
RE: mazda 6 brakes
The punch-driven impact screwdriver is the ticket...believe me. Spray some WD-40, Kroil, or 3-in-1 oil on them, have that beer while you wait, and the impact screwdriver will see them out. Good luck!
