Irritating ticking noise
Hello, I drive a 2006 Mazda 6 .It has close to 40000 miles on it. Last month I noticed a ticking noise when idling and when vehicle is turned off this ticking noise will linger for about 5 minutes before stopping. When having oil change last month at dealer where car was purchased I mentioned this noise and after being serviced the answer was that noise was caused by normal thermal expansion which is more noticable in colder weather. I have never heard this explanation before. The ticking sound is still there and makes me wonder if something could be done despite what service department says?

RE: Irritating ticking noise
well its not a mazda but my dads f150 truck does the same thing...its alittle excessive, but ford also says its expansion and what-not. his truck does it at idle and after shut off for a few minutes. i notice that if i take a long drive in my 6, and shut it off it will make the ticking noises...pretty much all cars do it..atleast everyone i have even been in lol. good luck with it!
