i just bought a used 03 mazda 6 bout a month ago. the first mod I want to do is install some fog lights into the bumpers. anyone done it themselves? how hard is it and what are some good lights other than the oem ones

 

You may want to conside the OEM ones...the wiring is already in-place (goes to a dummy plug on either side of the front bumper).

 

I have the same situation. I have a 2004 6s Sportwagon that didn't come with fog lights. PIAA and Hella are supposed to make some very good fog light systems.

I was curious about going OEM...good to hear that the wiring is there just behind a dummy plug...kicker is the switch then...would you have to replace the turn signal for an OEM wiht the fog light switch.

The stock lighting is fine for straight ahead driving but around turns there isn't enough light thrown on the ground so additional lighting would definitely help.

Anybody else install aftermarket fog lights?

 

Did anyone ever buy and install the M6 driving lights. I bought what were supposed to be OEM but the housings will not snap into place on my 04 wagon.
Also want to know more about the dummy plug locations. These came with a wiring harness, relay and switch.

 

I believe the factory kit comes with a new LH stalk that adds a foglight toggle. The harnesses would be clipped into the backside of the small plastic closeout panels in the front bumper (where the foglights should go.)

I have been away from the forum for the past several months due to busy workload and all. I am circling back wanting to install fog lights on my 04 Sportwagon. I reread the comments and want to know the location of the OEM fog lights.

Are they in the headlight cluster or do they sit in the lower portion of the bumpers where those vent covers are? Plus, I am also looking into buying a front strut bar to keep the front end nice and tight. Any brands to look at?

I had to change my wipers and slapped on PIAA Super Silicone wiper blades on and so far so good. I ordered the driver side with the spoiler and it looks neat.

To answer your first question; there are fogs located in the light cluster (atleast there is on my 05 M6s), but you can get auxilary fog lights from mazda that will fit in the lower vent covers. As for the tie bar, I know that this site has some www.therpmstore.com, but don't know what to recomend for you man, sorry.

 

How much more different is it to intall fog lights on my '07 model than it is for any other model from '03-'06?

 

I checked the mazda accessory website and yup they have those auxillary fog lights that are installed in the lower bumper where those dummy vents are installed. For a balanced look on the front end, I think the fog lights look better on lower fender then housed in the headlight cluster.

List is $170.00 so I'll see how much labor is from them. I wonder what kind of switch it comes with though? I have space on the button rows where the traction control is so figured it would go there.

the factory fog lights are in the headlight assembly H3 bulbs. these are the lights controlled by the fog light option on the factory headlight switch.

I have see lights in the lover vent covers, but idk what these are connected to. im sure they are all prewired, but i do not know what switch they would be controlled off of.

There are unused plugs on the back of the knee bolster (lower dash panel) but again , idk what they are for. My girlfriend bought an 03, brand new in 03 when they came out, and it has every option. there was not an option for lower bumper lights when she got hers.
