I was driving my best friends car, and noticed a knocking sound when I would excellerate, I pulled over after about 1 mile and checked the oil, it barely registered on the DIP STICK. I called him and had him bring some oil to me but the car is still knocking. He took it to a mechanic today who said the engine is shot. There is no oil leaks visable and there was no burning oil smell or color in the exhaust. Please any suggestions the car is a 2005 with 60-65k MILES. Thanks, for any help.

when was the last time the oil was changed? have the receipt for the shop/dealer that did it? if you are within 3k or so, mazda might be able to help out?

 

If it's knocking real bad and they are saying your motor is toast, my guess would be broken/cracked connecting rod or bearing. If you ran it out of oil, that's a real good possibility as you would overheat the bearing surfaces real quick..

 

I dont think Mazda would help out, even if it was under warranty, they may not because it is out of oil. This is a tough one, Id just keep driving it up it dies, but that is shame...Id try to get a second opinion...
