Default Fuel Induction Service and Brake Fluid Flush recommended at 21k miles

Are these services really necessary for Mazda 6 at 24months/21k mile? The maintenance guys did not push them on me, but suggested as recommendations. In total they cost about ~400. I am not sure if they need to be done or not.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture over time. This is why Mazda ( & most other manufactures ) recommend replacing brake fluid ever 2 yrs / 24 months.

I'm not sure what a Fuel induction service is, however, you fuel system, & induction system shouldn't require any servicing at such a low mileage or age.

For peace of mind, I replace my brake fluid once a year. It costs me nothing tho.

If you want to mess with the dealership service folks, ask them to show you in published Mazda manuals and service bulletins where an induction service is required at only 24 months. My guess is they cannot, in fact, I'd bet dollars to donuts they cannot. If they insist the service is necessary, ask them to put it in writing and then send it off to Mazda.

As for the brake and clutch fluid service, if the car comes with a factory recommendation of DOT-3 fluid, then I typically replace it after three years, if the car comes with a recommendation of DOT-4, then I replace it every other year. Our 2016 Mazda3 comes with a DOT-3 and a 24 month replacement recommendation, which in my experience, is pretty unusual.

You can accomplish the intake service with a can of CRC GDI IVD (those are the letters on the can) for about $15 and a bit of your time.

Brake fluid is interesting. Mazda recommends no brake fluid replacement at all for the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico. For Mexico, they specify replacement every 2 years. Brake fluid should indeed be replaced periodically, for reasons mentioned in other posts here. Mazda specifies DOT-3 fluid, so personally I'd say every 3 years is completely adequate. If you put DOT-4 or DOT-5.1 in, then replace (flush) every 2 years, IMO.

My teenage son and I flushed the brakes on our 6 this morning. I'm not sure how long it took overall. An hour or two? I don't have much of a 'shop' any more, and so taking each wheel off one at a time and having him pump the brakes and me operate the bleeder screw is slower than it would be for your dealer, who I am certain has a power 'bleeder.'

I'd go for the brake fluid flush any time from now up to a year from now. The intake service I'd pass on altogether, but as you can see I prefer to do my own maintenance and light repairs. If you don't, then I'd suggest you wait a few more years for the intake service, unless you have symptoms that indicate getting it done.

Pretty much worthless expenditure of time and money after only 21,000 miles.

Not so, both of our USDM Mazda3s, a 2009 (long since replaced) and a 2016 (current) have requirements for replacing the brake fluid every 24 months stated quite clearly in the Owner's Manual.

I'm glad they updated the manual in subsequent years to harmonize their requirements. Strictly speaking, since Mazda didn't make the change retroactive and haven't communicated a change to owners, they still do not call for a change for the USA, Canada, or Puerto Rico for the 2015 model 6. (-;

I'm not sure why you think that; this snippet is from the 2015 Mazda6 Owner's Manual (the same grid exists in the Scheduled Maintenance (U.S.A., Canada, and Puerto Rico)):

I think it because of the manual in my hands right now from my 2015. The electronic one I downloaded from Mazda last week is identical. What you’ve posted is for the Mexican market only.

Sorry, but no, the manual clearly states "Scheduled Maintenance (U.S.A., Canada, and Puerto Rico)". I have no idea what you're looking at, but clearly it is not correct for the U.S. market.
