Default FUEL DOOR PROBLEM!!1

OK SO I JUST GOT MY MAZDA 6 AND I WAS PUTTING GAS IN IT SO AFTER I WAS DONE I CLOSE THE CAP AND PUSH THE DOOR IN BUT IT DOES NOT CLOSE...IT SLIGHLY POPS BACK OUT AND DOES NOT CLOSE..WHAT SHOULD I DO?[&o]

The 6 has an inside release, and I'm sure you checked to make sure the handle was down all the way, right?
That said, it's a pretty simple system wherea cable runs from handle to a spring loaded pin or detent.
Can you hear if the detent pin is makiong contact with the latch on the door? Is the latch on the door bent?
Or, if you pull out the access panel behind the fuel door, you might see something going on, like a pinch or misalignment/adjustment at that end. That's where I would start.
Or is something caught or hanging up on the handle end?
If the car is still under warranty, take it back to the dealer service department for a look and save yourself the trouble.

NICE!! 'Wish I hadaccess to some of this stuff....

I'm just wondering if the cable/detent didn't simply come loose and the nut behind needs tightening? That's assuming the latch on the door isn't bent, of course.
