Front Disc Brake Pads

Has anyone replaced the front disc brake pads on ther 6? The shop manual shows a special tool (SST) called a Disc Brake Expand Tool to expand the calipers. Is this tool necessary? I've always used a C-clamp to do this, but it's always been GM cars that I've done brake jobs on. I've tried to find a place to purchase this tool but no luck. Tried a couple of Mazda dealers but they say the don't carry it and no offer to order it. I did some searching on the web and found a couple of posts from people that have tried to get special Mazda tools and can find no dealer willing to sell them. Thanks for any info.

RE: Front Disc Brake Pads

Have replaced tons of front brake pads on Mazda 6. The SST #49 0221 600C is just Mazda's fancy version of a C clamp. My 6" C-clamp has been in use for many years serving the same purpose on Mazda's that yours does on GM.
