Default Engine h.p. Ratings

I've noticed that since its introduction, the h.p. rating for the6-cylinderMazda6has gone from 220 to 215 and is now at 212 (tourqe has increased slightly). Is there any specific reason why Mazda would do this? Has de-rating the engine improved reliability?

my guess is that they have shifted the powerband to give it some more low end grunt (something sorely lacking in these cars), but I would need to see a dyno chart to verify that.

There was a change in the way horsepower is measured (in 2006 or 2007 I believe) which resulted in a slightly lesser number for identical engines.

Well this would explain the differnece in hp between a 2006 and a 2007 Mazda6.
