Default DVD Nav update

Hello. I recently purchased a 2006 Mazda 6. 'Tis my first car (yay!). It has a DVD nav for "Europe", but apparently some people don't believe Bulgaria to be on the Europe map, so I don't have maps for my sweet homeland. A buddy sent me a file with supposedly up-to-date maps to 2018 and I would like to update my car's nav. I read somewhere that if the car's system....detects...somehow(?) that they are from an unofficial source, the car...or the nav system locks up or...something. I didn't get it.
Anyway, so the mazda website offers updates but the software says "insert SD card", which I don't have, because I drive a 13 year old car. Can I just burn the files of the maps I have to a DVD and put the disk in the car's DVD-ROM or will something... be detected and malfunction?
Thanks.

Have you spoken to Mazda? Newer cars run SD cards for satnav, older models run a DVD, there should be DVD's available either thru Mazda or their nominated supplier.
