driving belt

I am due for the 90,000 miles service visit. There is no set recommendation for replacing the driving belt. Should I do it now?

Driving belt? Do you mean the timing belt? If so, we don't have one, we have a timing chain and it can go a looooong time without being changed out.

drive belt versus chaim

From looking at forums, it seems there is a lot of confusion about whether there is a belt of chain. I have a 2004 Mazda 6 wagon and the maintenance specifications in my manual include inspection and adjustment of a drive belt.

Again, there is no recommendation of when to replace.

hmm, no clue then man I do know for a fact that the 3.0L V6 and 2.3L I4 have a timing chain and not a belt, now we do have accessory belts and they do need to be replaced periodically. Now, if you have one of the other engine options available in Europe or Asia I can't say for certain.

Sounds like the serpentine belt, and yes, if it has never been changed it is long overdue.

Oh yeah, if it's the serpentine belt, that thing has got to be practically mummified by now.
