Difficulty starting....

I have a 2005 Mazda6 Sportswagon. It starts fine, except after putting gas in the tank. It takes about 10+ seconds to start. Sometimes, if you don't hold the key long enough, it'll stall. Strange. Anyone else with similar problem?

I assume no Check Engine Light? If your trip to the gas station is a very short one it could be similar to a flooding issue. In that situation try starting with the gas pedal depressed.

No offences AHan, but starting with the gas pedal depressed isn't great advice. These are fuel injected (not carburated) engines.....Do you top your tank off or just let it go to the first click? Topping it off can cause a hard to start condition.

I've never had problems with my wife's Sportwagon (83,000 miles now)

Actually, sstlaure, when the engine is flooded, depressing the gas pedal IS the correct way to start. You can choose to call my advice bad, but it is a fact. Very often in these cars, as well as Hondas and Toyotas, running very shortly and shutting off the car will leave you in a no-start condition due to excess fuel. Typically, starting the car to move in the driveway and shutting right off can cause this. If you lived within a few doors from the gas station it could cause that same problem.

Actually, it doesn't matter how long it's been driven. I work about 45 minutes from home. sometimes i fuel up before getting to work. there is a check engine light on. i think it's something about an evap leak. my friend cleared it before inspection, but it came back. the car's performance is fine.

i forgot to add that it doesn't matter if i only put a few gallons in or if i fill it up.

I'd work with the EVAP codes first. Could be anything form cannister, to fuel tank or filler neck, to gas cap. Hopefully fixing that will make your starting problem go away.
