A/C not working (Mk2 GH, 2.0D Sport MZR-CD, 6 speed)
Hi All,
Should have got this sorted before the hot weather arrived!
My aircon doesn't work at all - blower does blow air through the vents at varying speeds, and when you press the A/C button it lights up and shows on the display, but nothing happens, i.e. the air stays the same temperature and the engine note does not change, as you might expect it to when the A/C pulley is under load.
The previous owner, who is a friend of mine, said that he took it to the main dealer and had it regassed, but this made no difference and the dealer said it was either the compressor, condensor, or evaporator, but he decided not to have it repaired as it was going to cost £700 minimum and the car was not worth spending that much on it (I got it cheap and I am doing it up myself).
My first thought is to buy a secondhand A/C compressor (or just the pulley if it is replaceable without replacing the whole compressor) on eBay and see if that fixes the issue (based on what I said about the engine note, earlier). If that is the likely cause, can anyone tell me the part number of the compressor for my model (Mk2 GH, 2.0 Diesel Sport MZR-CD, 6 speed manual), please?
Any ideas about how to proceed (sequence of things to check / replace)?
Many thanks in advance!

Need the basic info like the year of your Mazda
But more is better.... miles when the HVAC system was last serviced and what was it?
When was the last cooling system service and what was done?
When was the last time the AC was confirmed working?
Generally speaking, to name the most common problems
if the radiator fan does not turn on when you acuate the AC then the compressor will not engage.
If you are low on freon the compressor will not engage
If a temperature sensor is bad the compressor will not engage

Forgot to add year of car to post title - it is 2008.
Regarding when it was last serviced it would be at least a couple of years, but I don't have much documentation as previous owner didn't keep it.
I've decided to have a professional A/C company do the diagnosis work for me.

I've repaired my aircon system (with a used compressor and new condenser) - I've had it re-gassed and the specialist said my work to replace them was good (no leaks). The problem we noticed is that there is a rattling noise when the a/c is switched on - we saw the magnets working and the vent air is cold, as it should be, but noticed the magnets do slip a bit (I should have checked the bolt was tight before fitting the used compressor) - is this likely just a loose bolt (the magnet plate fell off my old compressor) or could it be something else, e.g. corroded plates within the clutch, so magnets are not strong enough to hold it without slipping.
Any suggestions are most welcome. Also, can magnetic clutch / pulley issues be resolved without taking the compressor off the car (so the system doesn't need to be degassed).
I've attached a video, where you can see the slipping, and hear the noise.
