Blower motor stopped working

I have a 2004 Mazda 6 3.0 Sport Wagon with automatic climate control.

The blower motor has completely stopped working on all speeds.
The speed indicator still works on the readout, but the motor
never turns on-- not unlike my wife (wait for laughter). I have
powered the motor directly with 12v, and it works, so I know it
must have something to do with a switch/relay/resistor and not
the motor itself.

When I ground the motor directly to the battery, the motor
still fails to run; however, when the motor is grounded directly
to the battery, the blower will run briefly (about 3 seconds)
right after the ignition is turned off. This does not happen
when the motor is connected via the wiring harness plug.

Any ideas where the problem lies?

Check the fan resistor

Thank you for the reply. I am
thinking it's the resistor as well,
but I am having touble finding
its location. I have looked up a
picture of the replacement part,
but so far, I have not been able
to locate anything that resembles
resistor that I am seeing in the
pictures. I have been looking
behind the glove box. Am I
looking in the correct location?
