Default Alternator bad?

2006 Madza 6 owner. Vehicle wouldn't start, popped hood, battery oozing acid. Towed to dealership. Informed the alternator was putting out too many amps, fried battery and the entire wire harness! Anyone else ever experience this?

RJ,

Does your warranty cover that? A fried wiring harness is no small repair job. Please let us know, ok? Cheers,

David

The tech guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a sticking voltage regulator will allow an alternator to overcharge the battery. These days the voltage regulator is (most times) integrated inside the alternator, so the alternator takes the blame.
This better be covered by warranty. It's bumper to bumper, and there's no way negligence contributed to the problem.
When you get the car back, look over any areas the battery acid could have gotten to. That's nasty stuff and you don't want to find out about hidden damage the hard way.
