Accord EXL v. Mazda 6 GT
I'm getting ready to buy a new car. I currently have a 92 Accord LX which has been the most reliable car I could have ever had for the last 10 years. However, it is that time again. I test drove the Mazada A6 base, 5-speed and feel in love with the way it drove. It handles beautifully, it sticks, the engine is so quiet, and it's got some zip. It felt like the 170 horsepower had more pick-up than the 190 EXL. Ok, so I know 90% of the people in this forum are going to support the Mazda 6 over the Accord. But I know what I get with the Accord. I seriously need to know the reliability of Mazda vehicles. Do they typically have a lot of engine problems, or other bumper to bumper internal problems? Please give me your honest opinion.
I've owned my '05 s (3.0 v6) for a little over 2 years now, and i've been racing it for about 1.5 in that time, after the abse i have put the car under, there have been no powertrain issues. Infact the only issues i have had with the car have been a squeeky brake pedal (that was fixed for free by the dealership as there was a TSB out about it) and a broken endlink for my rear swaybar (which had more to do with the ginormous AM sway bars i have on the car combined with the abuse of autocross than a part being bad). Going through forums to brows messages can make a car sound like there are alot more problems than there actually are, cause lets face it, most people don't come here when nothing is wrong (some, like me, do but that's another matter entirely). The result is that the cars look unreliable and poorly made. The truth however, is that these are great car that can be alot of fun to own and drive. So long as you keep up on proper maintenance and such you should be fine.

im kind of torn here. that 92 accord LX you had is mint. those cars will never die. my dad had his for 300 000 KM's before he sold it for a 02 TL and no problems whatsoever. it was amazing. im torn between the accord and the mazda6. but its your call test drive them both see which one feels good and cheaper too.
I've had my 2005 6s for a year, and I bought it used with about 62k miles. I did a trans flush, coolant flush, and some other other maint. stuff right when I got it, even though everything seemed to be good. I've never had any problems with mine, and I've put over 10k on it so far and its still good. As long as you take care of it with maintenance and all that, you won't have a problem...but test drive them both to see what feels better to you.
I pick my mazda 6s 06 over accord, altima and camry. My mazda 6s has best brake distance compare to other brands. The price on my mazda 6s was a bargain ($7500 of Msrp) compared to accord.
I owned 94 accord Lx and A/C did fail twice within 10 years. That is why I don't want to buy accord again.
My mazda6s had one power window failed. I need to see my dealer regarding engine light on. All of these are covered under warranty. The battery does not cover under 100 % warranty.
Why not consider altima, fusion or camry instead of accord or mazda6? The prices on them are much cheaper than mazda6 or accord. Accord is too expensive. My friend got 09 altima 6 without stereo $17250 plus tax and 3 years 0% finance. I think it is a better deal than mazda6 or accord.
