Default 4 cyl gas mileage?????

I currently have a 2006 Mazda3 with the 2.0/manual transmission. I have been very happy with this car and have had virtually zero issues to date. I typically replace this car every 2 years and I'm almost at that time, so I'm starting to think about what to get next. My wife has already informed me that she wants an auto this time. Good chance I'll get another 3, but I would prefer the 6. I have a number of other "non practicle" vehicles, so this one is really geared toward fuel mileage. I usually get around 30-32 in town and 36-38 on the highway. I sure can't complain aboout that!

For those of you that have 4cyl models, what kind of mileage are you getting. Any input will really help me decide.

Thanks

I Have a 6 manual with 4 banger. I live in the mountians and get anywhere from 28- 31 each tank. I have to climb a lot, but I also get the opportunity to coast safely alot.

I'm in a rental right now that is a mazda 6, 4 cyl. auto
I have been averaging 30-31.5 milesper gallon. or just over 500 miles to the tank
I would guess 1/4 city 3/4 highway.

Thanks! Keep the numbers coming.
I'm going to drive on today. Will be interesting to see how it drives. I tested an 08 Dodge Avenger last night and a Pontiac G5. The Avenger had the most gutless engine (4 cyl) I have ever driven. The G5 was much better, but the interior was very cheap. Going to pass on both of those.

We have an '07 6i and it's a five speed and i'd say I get about 27-29 mpg but i'm pretty much all city with constant freeway speed to a stop light back to freeway speed and i'm constantly shifting. Basically, i'm not super conservative in my driving and not necessarly mileage concious so the 27-29 isn't bad. We did just take it for a highway drive this weekend and it definitely makes a difference in gas usage. I average 450 miles per tank before the light goes on. Hopefully that helps.

That falls inline w/my 3S HB(same 2.3L) mileage w/a 5-sp. 26-28 w/a heavy foot in mixed driving. 23-25w/the A/C on... and a heavy foot. Mileage is not my main concern either. Best milage to date on a 1600 mile trip was 32.3.

06' 6, 5-speed 4-cyl. I usually get 30-31 on highway, getting 25-28 in city/stop-go traffic.
