2010 6 3.7L - Water pump quote ($3400)??

So the water pump crapped out on the 2010 Mazda 6 3.7L V6.

I heard it would probably require pulling the engine. I knew once you've pulled the engine, you might as well take care of some other items as well. I knew it would be pricey... but $3600 was still a shock!

Is this the dealer?

Unfortunately no. I figured the dealership would be the most expensive option. I'm contacting them tomorrow just to see.

I selected this shop due to a few "I've heard positive things about them" comments at work, all the positive reviews online, and proximity to home.

Saw someone mention repairpal for quotes. They list the water pump as ~$1500 for this car and list nearby shops that alegedly honor that quote. $1500 for the pump + $1000 for all the other stuff would be more tolerable. Seen other people online get quotes less than $2000... but those are posts from several years ago.

Might have to take a half-day from work to shop around, but I'm thinking $2500 or better is achievable.

I agree that $2500 should get it done. I think if you take the time to shop you'll be able to get it down. My first thought is they were $1K high which is why I was thinking it was the dealer,
