Towing Damage?

Earlier this week I had to get pulled out of the mud. Long story, but I promise I'm not as dumb as I sound.

Anyway, I used the tow-thing - the little round hook that you screw into the hole in the front bumper. I thought this was the appropriate way to do it, but it messed up my alignment - both front and back, according to the shop where I had it fixed. I have to take it back in, as I'm still getting a minor vibration at high speeds (better than it was, though).

So, did I do it wrong, or is that just a side-effect of pulling it out like that? Or did the twenty minutes of pushing and rocking in the mud before we got a truck with a tow chain mess it up?

My guess would be the 20 minutes before, unless it was pulled out sideways or the wheels were turned the opposite direction.
