Mazda5 DPF problem
Hi, I had a problem with my DPF filter light flashing last year, the garage did a oil/filter change and a regen but couldn't reset the light (eventually they did after getting an auto electrican to help).. I have since moved so use another garage and the DPF light started flashing again last week, I did an oil/ filter change myself in June, and the garage did a regen for me but they couldn't reset the light either, they want to replace the DPF filter at a large cost. I'm sure it's just the light that needs resetting, there has been no contamination in the oil as the oil level hasn't changed at all. Would I be best taking it to a Mazda dealer to hook it up to there diagnostics, or just pay for the new DPF? Thankyou

How many miles/km do you have on your 5? DPFs only last around 80k-120K miles on average.

117k, normally does motorway miles but for the past 6 weeks iv been just driving locally. That explains it then! Thanks is it an expensive job?

To change it no, its no more expensive than replacing a cat converter or muffler but what is expensive is the part itself, your looking at upwards of $800 for the DPF. Not knowing the year of your 5 I just guessed and used 2008 to look for prices, this is what I found MAF014 - DPF - Click Car Parts Limited

It's an 06. Iv just rechecked the oil level and I think it's rising,I have a solid block of oil at the bottom up to the correct level but then at certain points in the dipstick it's Half covered in oil and half clear do I count this or just the solid block? I wasn't sure if it was from the dipstick pipe with me pulling the dipstick out

Just the solid block, what your seeing is just oil in the tube getting on the dipstick. The '05s till I think the latest model all use the same DPF so the price for the '08 should be the same. BTW if you havent done any freeway miles lately now would be a good test, DPFs regenerate 2 ways, one is with the heat from freeway driving and the 2nd is dumping extra fuel in the exhaust to burn, if you have not been at high speeds for long you may have never regenerated the DPF since then if there is a problem with the over fuel option.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure as there seemed to be quite a bit of oil on both sides all the way up the dipstick but no solid block of oil apart from at the bottom. Thanks again for all your help
