Mazda 5 milage- hmmmm

Hello everyone. I searched this topic and found an old thread from 2011 so sorry if this has been discussed.

I purchased a 2012 Mazda 5 GS automatic in November. I am reaching the 900 km mark and the milage has not been the best at all. Granted we are city drivers but even my 1997 Grand Prix had better mileage than this and it had 180000km on it!

We are averaging 17.3 l/km (computer) 18.22 l/km (real). This seems high. Some people have told me (like in the other thread I mentioned) it breaks in around the 1000km mark. Is this true? Can I expect better results soonish?

I just wanted to get some feedback from other users to see if maybe there's something wrong with the car? We don't drive with a lead foot at all but do all city driving (we live in Toronto).

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Getting good gas mileage in cold weather is not going to happen, especially if car has to warm up while you waiting and cleaning off car.
It all depends on where you drive in Toronto (downtown or outskirts).

Welcome aboard fellow Ontarian!
Hope you enjoy your ride.

I do enjoy my ride immensely! Thanks for the reply

It's really only been cold for a little while here in Toronto. I know the cold raises the mileage I just didn't think it would be that high!

Today it's 13 degrees out! XD

I know, i worked on the car today, took full advantage of it and saved $$$. Got rid of my second battery and moved my amplifier from rear of car to just behind driver seat. Got rid of 13 feet of power cable. With the shorter run of power wire, second battery not needed. 2 batteries only work good if you have an isolator (which i didn't). When installing a bass amp more than 8 feet-ish you need bigger than 4 gauge wire and/or a 2nd battery/capacitor.
It doesn't look pretty right now, but i'll wait til spring and maybe hook back up my coooling fan. It's trial for now. :)
