Mazda 5 loose rear window
 

My 08 Mazda 5's rear window is loose. I believe its bonded to the frame and it looks like it will eventually break or fall out:eek:
A few months ago I noticed a rattle every time I closed the rear hatch. I thought it was something in the tool tray making the noise but recently I noticed the glass on the door shake when I closed it. I took it to a Mazda dealer and a body shop and they suggested an auto glass repair specialist.
My hope is that they can re- bond the glass without breaking it!
In hindsight I wish I would've been more gentle when closing the rear hatch the last 5 years.
Any insight into this problem would be appreciated. The glass specialist is coming to look at it today!

I am no glass professional. I can only speak about the gen2 mazda5 (but I think the rear glass is installed pretty much the same) and looking at its service manual, there appears to be some pins that help hold the glass in but other than that it would require them to use piano wire to slice through the sealant and remove the glass. I would have total confidence in a glass specialist to be able to remove the glass without damaging it. Some glass companies are only interested in remove/replace with new. When I have a job outside of the regular R&R (for example, I need a window motor/regulator replaced (I hate doing these)) I call about 3-4 glass companies and see which one sounds the most capable and interested in doing the job. Inform them that nothing appears to be wrong with the glass and that it just needs to be removed then reinstalled with new sealant. I'd assume they will clean off any old sealant from the frame and glass then reinstall with new sealant.

I am also wondering about this. I was doing some fiddling around and noticed the rear window looks difficult to replace and I'm trying to figure it out in case something happens down the road.

I made a reply to this the other day but it either is lost or something else... I'm not going to retype the whole thing, so quick and dirty: according to my gen2 mazda 5 manual, there are couple of plugs that hold the window to the lift gate frame, but it is mainly sealant. A glass company should be able to do this for you without issue. However, in my experience, most of these glass companies only like to remove and replace with a new unit. They dont like to do extra work like clean sealant off the old glass and prep for reinstall, replace a motor/regulator (obviously not applicable to your situation), etc. So, call around to 3-4 glass companies and find one who sounds like they are interested in and capable of doing your remove, clean, reseal job. If it sounds like they don't do reinstalls (like they want to install a brand new window), then just skip on to the next one.

I went to an rv auto glass repair expert for the issue and they have fixed the issue easily without wasting time.
