Evaporative Emission control system leak detected
My '07 Mazda5 - Auto U.S.A. model only have 29,000 miles. Engine light just light up yesterday. I put OBDII and it show the Evaporative emission control system leak detected (gross leak). Have anyone encounter this problems? Help. Thanks you

First thing would be to check/replace the fuel cap. They have to be snug and leak-free or you will get that code. |
Is this related to (or the same as) the "leak detection pump"? We had to have ours replaced under warranty - still not totally sure what it even is, but apparently it has to do with emissions.

BC, I never heard of that one before. Perhaps one of the recently "trained" technicians (cough, Tracker, cough-cough) would know more about that than this old wrencher. And where is maz07et? He's/she's the OP of this thread and nary a word since the beginning? |
Assuming that a leak detection pump is identical in all vehicles, here is what it appears to be (found this in some random forum)
Apparently the LDP is a small air pump that pressurizes the EVAP & fuel system to make sure there are no leaks, to ensure that no harmful vapors are escaping to the atmosphere. So basically its an environmental thing, but when broken, really has no impact on anything else to do with the vehicle. Good to know. |
