Yes, but not exactly how all of them work and what the ECU does with the input information? I realize you got your information to post on the internet because you gave a wide blanket response. If you truly understood how the relationship between the ECU and all the parts that give input information worked and if you read and understood the first response I am sure you would not have posted what could start the OP to go off in a distracted direction to resolve his issues.
I will give credit for a guess of the many possibilities but without more information and more direct Q&A to the OP lets hope he does not go off on a wild goose chase because of that concerning GUESS from your post.

Just to be sure I know all there is about a drive by wire and also even how to change their sensor input to the ecu.
BTW to show you that your are not exactly correct, drive down the road set your cruise control and acutate it then unplug your driveby wire connector. Guess what nothing will happen . You will natuarlly need to turn off the crusie pull carefully to the side of the raod and reconnect the drive by wire. LOL
Next.... you can while in your driveway or garage start your engine with the drive-by wire disconnected. The TB is pre set and match the % input information to the ECU which is between 12-18% depending on the model Mazda.
What is other things you mention , nothing really , because all the driveby wire does is send the pedal position % informtion to the ECU.
Last if the driveby wire is or has a problem the ECU will post the DTC.

You are 100% correct. Thank you for your post that belittled me when I was offering a simple test that cost nothing and less than few minutes of time. I hope they follow your recommendation to visit another mechanic. Just to make you happy I will not post again on this forum.

Look its your choice to stay and maybe participate on threads or not. I belong to a few Mazda forums and often try to help members but often get them posting the LONG WAY around doing things.
I would recommend maybe in the future and whatever forum you post on to read the information from members and if you don't have good suggestions then ask more questions before just posting a guess ? And yes it may only take a few minutes but if many posted that kind of info then the task would not be so quick now, would it?
I also looked at your posting profile, really you should not be so thinned skinned

The OPs issue at this time is to first find a real trained and certified diesel Technician and not a mechanic that works on diesels. There is a BIG difference when it comes to diesels in this year range that are OBDII ECU controlled and a newer Mazda.
