2016.5 CX5 electronic parking brake
I accidentally pulled the electronic parking brake (EPB) while at approx 30mph...there was a some noise, a clunk - obviously - and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Since then EPB still works but the right and left rear brakes seem to operate at a different speed when I disengage the brake from a stop. What would be the most likely type of damage that could have occurred. Is there any way of checking this myself before taking into a shop for a check up?
Thanks,
Thanks,

I would pull the rear wheels and calipers and do a visual inspection to make sure the pads are good. You may not notice an issue with the service brakes but the electric servos might be out of phase. If they look okay, try going into maintenance mode with the brakes and then out of it. There are videos on Youtube that will show you how to do it. You have to follow the procedure exactly to do it, but it is doable. It took me three tries to do it the first time.
It never hurts to go to a shop if you aren't comfortable doing your own work. I'm not a fan of Pep Boys but that's because I know the local store. Folks have had issues there. Other stores may be much better.
I'm curious how you managed to accidentally engage the brake. I did it once on purpose just to see how it acted, but it released okay and didn't make any difference in future operation.
I thought the brake pedal needed to be depressed to engage the parking brake. As for the cloth, I can see that happening. I've seen worse things done. I was driving on ice once and was slipping the transmission into N to keep the rear wheels from causing the Jeep to plow the front wheels when braking. I moved it too far once and put it into reverse at 50 mph. At least the ice didn't lock the wheels. It didn't seem to hurt it though.
