2010 Mazda5 clutch engagement point
 

Hi folks - looking for some guidance. Where in the clutch pedal range do you find the clutch engagement point? I test drove a 50k milleage 2010 5spd car yesterday and found the engagement point to be quite high. Coming from years of driving manual equipped cars, I immediately thought the clutch was a gonner, however my observations were as such: soft and little feel, clutch engagement point near the top 80% of the pedal travel (ie: near natural resting position), smooth shifting, no slipping or grinds in any of the gears.

So is this normal for a mazda5? Where should the engagement point be?

It shouldn't be that high. I have a 2010 (it's a gen 2 model), 6 speed box, and it feels completely normal. Not near the top of the pedal movement.

I own a Swiss Mazda 5 2007 (2.0 litres petrol). I find the clutch engagement point quite high as you described it.
I was told that the pedal was not directly connected via cable to the clutch, but instead it drives a motor in charge of the clutch...
The friction point (don't know what's the exact name in English) is also quite sensitive. You need to hold the pedal long enough for the 3 first gears otherwise you feel a jerk.
